Manhattan, boardroom, documents — Season Two

New York  ·  Cinevision AdTech  ·  1991

The Premise

Abigail Fisher — now operating under her chosen surname, relocated to Forest Hills, New York — takes a senior finance role at Cinevision AdTech. In her first days she uncovers a $4,872,436 variance in the reversal ledger. Her system access is blocked before the day ends. She discovers she signed the Q3 report on day four before she understood what it contained. Her name is on the architecture she is about to expose.

The Crime

Sebastian Carter, the CEO, has been systematically siphoning funds through a network of subsidiary accounts for nine years. Running total: $7,843,447. The mechanism is architecture rather than embezzlement — funds redirected invisibly ahead of acquisition announcements into a Cayman Islands holding company. Lena Crane, the IT analyst, documented the system before she disappeared. She left a ghost archive. Her name becomes the title of Abigail's regulatory submission.

The Chess Architecture

Each character occupies a chess piece. Each piece dictates how they can move. The season cold open repeats across all nine episodes, building year by year: Sebastian in his office, the glass, the pour, the watch, the hand at the keyboard. Nine years of theft rendered in ritual.

The Queen

Abigail Fisher

Most powerful, most mobile, most at risk. Does the King's work without knowing it. Her forensic discoveries are the instrument Lukas has been waiting for — she will not see this until the board has already been cleared.

The Bishop

Lukas Moreau

Never moves far. Never exposed. Read a dossier on Abigail before her interview. Told an unknown caller she was there to find what she finds. Wins everything. Feels smaller for it.

The King

Sebastian Carter

Never moves straight. Nine years. $7,843,447. Year 9: the monitor is dark. The glass is full. Any move worsens his position. He sits in zugzwang.

The Rook

Blake Keaton

The most decent man in the building — which makes him the most vulnerable. The hotel bar conversation with Abigail is the most honest night of his professional life. Sacrificed to open the board. Walks out with his head up.

The Knight

Liam Carrington

L-shaped, unpredictable. Arrives in New York from a London prison. Engineers access through Vanessa Ward. Sends a postcard from Bermuda and disappears into the dark.

♟ ♟ ♟

The Pawns

Vanessa · Mason · Lena

Expended. Moved by others. Lena documented the system, knew she was not coming back, left a ghost archive — IC_recon_legacy_v1.wk1 — and planted a backdoor. Abigail's regulatory submission is named simply: LENA.
